The Necklace of Love

The Necklace of Love is #81 in the Camfield series and was published in May 1990. Set in 1839, Kezia and her brother, Perry, dream up a plan to pretend to be married after the Marquis of Bayeux, who is a wild, but rich rake, decides to purchase the heirloom necklace which they own and will solve their penniless situation. However, Kezia didn't plan on falling in love with the Marquis or facing the wrath of his lovely mistress!

This cover shows our heroine being carried by the hero, as if she has fainted. She wears a modish Victorian styled gown of green, richly decorated, which flatters her red hair. The room they stand in may be the Marquis's chateau, but looks like a museum! It's too bad we don't see the necklace of the title, but I guess that would be too greedy!

A Very Special Love

A Very Special Love is #80 in the Camfield series and was published in April 1990. The Marquis of Okehampton found out that he had inherited a ward who needed to be rescued from a false convent! So he jumps onto his yacht and travels to Cornwall to meet Zia, who is being coerced because of her fortune! The next thing to do is to marry her off, but the Marquis becomes concerned because his ward is rich and because, just maybe, he wants her for his own!

We see on the cover the rescue of our heroine, who is still wearing her nuns robe as they climb onto the yacht that carries them off to safety. They seem to finally look at each other and this looks like a happy moment. I like the setting of the wharf and the ship in the background.

Kiss from a Stranger

Kiss from a Stranger is #79 in the Camfield series and was published in March 1990. Shenda Lynd, the orphaned vicar's daughter, is taken in to live with the servants at Arrow Castle, only to find out that the handsome stranger who kissed her in the woods, is the master of the house! She uncovers a plot by a Bonapartist spy to kill the Earl of Arrow and ends up in love with him!

Our cover shows the first meeting of our couple and their magical kiss! I think it's interesting that this cover has a horse and dog on it, both animals that Barbara Cartland liked. It's a bright summer day and our hero is dashing and cheeky!

Real Love or Fake

Real Love or Fake is #78 in the Camfield series and was published in February 1990. The Marquis of Kyneston leaves London after an affair gone wrong for Amsterdam, where he intends to purchase some Dutch art. While there, he meets Lela, who has run away from an unwanted suitor. She tries to sell him a fake painting, needing the funds to save her dying aunt.

An unknown artist created this cover of our couple. I like the city scene with the yacht in the canal behind them. The couple share a tender moment and are either saying "hello" or "goodbye"!

The Haunted Heart

The Haunted Heart is #77 in the Camfield series and was published in January 1990. Gina Borne takes the position as companion to the Earl of Ingleton's cousin and ward as a way to escape her uncle's grim household. However, once she meets Lady Alice, she realizes that someone in the house is trying to keep the Earl from marrying his cousin or any single woman!

I like the early Victorian gown worn by our heroine. The artist did a great job with the details of her dress and hairdo. Our hero still looks more Regency, but with the flashier cravat and waistcoat. They embrace in an bright and elegant room.

The Bargain Bride

The Bargain Bride is #76 in Barbara Cartland's Camfield series by Jove and was published in December 1989. The Earl of Blakeney is in debt after inheriting. Marcus Winton, viewing his disastrous gambling at Whites, decides to help him by marrying his sister and paying off his debts. Aleda isn't too happy with this solution and is concerned that he has married her to advance his social position. However, when she is kidnapped in London by some Chinese men, she discovers her husband's secrets!

Our cover artist shows the rescue of Aleda in the story. Our heroine is safe and the hero is relieved. The Chinese man and his servants seem more interesting that the couple and I'm intrigued with the room where this is all set. Not something you'd easily find in 1800's London! The cover is almost too busy.

The Temple of Love

The Temple of Love is #73 in the Camfield series by Barbara Cartland and published by Jove in November 1989. The Duke of Inglebury is on a mission to find a legendary temple deep in the Javanese jungle. While there, he finds Sarida, who is living nearby with her father, an author of religious books. Sarida is also intent on keeping the temple safe from the Dutch looters.

I think this is a very intriguing cover. We see our heroine in the garb of the Javanese culture, standing in front of the secret temple. Our hero is dressed in clothes designed for exploration. It looks like their initial meeting and the surprise of finding another English citizen in this exotic country!

A Circus for Love

A Circus for Love is #74 in the Camfield series and was published in October 1989 by Jove. Thelma Fern flees from a forced marriage to the home of the impoverished Earl of Merstone and decides to help him with his private circus as a way of support.

An unknown artist created this cover of our couple and my major issue with it is that the heroine looks out of proportion on her horse. Maybe it is her ballerina styled dress! The horses are drawn to perfection and the background is enchanting. It's another fun read by Barbara Cartland.

Love is a Maze

Love is a Maze is #73 in the Camfield series and was published in September 1989. Davina Brantforde asks a friend for work to keep her busy while she waits for her father, who has disappeared on diplomatic service! Her friend is a dress designer for society and she allows Davina to borrow a costume in order to go to the Royal Costume Ball next door. While there, she discovers a plot against the Duke of Norminster!

This is a pretty cover of our heroine in costume as the Queen of the Fairies. Our hero, dressed as a Georgian elegant, is enamored with her! I like the fact that she actually looks like an enchanted beauty!

The Perfect Pearl

The Perfect Pearl is #72 in the Camfield series and was published in August 1989. Norita Combe is the governess of the Marquis of Hawkhurst's little girl. They are on his yacht traveling to Bahrain in search of pearls! The Marquis is cold to his child and Norita endeavors to correct their relationship while protecting the child from the ladies on board!

This is a nice cover picture of our couple and the hero's little daughter. We see them looking at the ships that harvest the pearls and maybe they are at the dock to purchase some! Our heroine is pretty in pink with a large sunshade while the child is dressed in miniature! The hero is in clothing suitable for the heat. You can almost smell the sea air!

Solita and the Spies

Solita and the Spies is #71 in the Camfield series and was published in July 1989. Solita arrives at her guardian's castle to find out that he has forgotten he had a ward and that a wily Russian princess who is out to entrap him! How she manages to save him and they end up in India is the plot of this interesting romance.

Our couple stand in the bright sunlight of India after taking a ride. The yellow cover emphasizes the heat and light. Our heroine is lovely in a ribbon and ruffled dress of the 1880's. The servant in the background is almost redundant.

The Passionate Princess

The Passionate Princess is #70 in the Camfield series and was published in June 1989. Princess Thea flees an arranged marriage to a neighboring monarch and meets Nikos, an attractive artist. She is intrigued by him but realizes that she can't marry him until they meet up with an adventure among the gypsies!

We see our couple meeting in the cover of this book. Our heroine has left her horse and is looking at the picture that the artist hero is creating. Her green riding habit blends into the woods and water. It's a peaceful and bright cover.

Revenge is Sweet

Revenge is Sweet is #69 in the Camfield series and was published in May 1989. Valessa Chester, agrees to play a prank on the Marquis of Wyndonbury in exchange for money when it all goes wrong and she finds herself married to him! This is an interesting cover of our couple. They look as if they're in a foreign place, even though we see the Union Jack flying! Our heroine sits primly in a carriage while the hero gazes at her. Her dress has a Victorian look while the hero is mainly in Regency garb. Note the palm trees in the background!

A Knight in Paris is #68 in the Camfield series and was published in April 1989. The Earl of Charncliffe travels to Paris chasing after the Incomparable, but finds a treasure in a lovely Comtesse, just after he becomes engaged to the other lady. Can a miracle of true love still happen?

I like this cover because we have a rarity: a brunette heroine! It's so rare to see them on Barbara Cartland's covers! Our couple are at a reception with the emperor Napoleon. The drawing room is very ornately decorated and the guests are dressed finely. It's an interesting cover and would make me want to read the story.

The Perfume of the Gods

The Perfume of the Gods is #67 in the Camfield series and was published in March 1989. Medina Tewin, disguised as an Arab boy, agrees to guide the Marquis of Anglestone into Mecca! She is perturbed at his plan and afraid that she may fall in love with the handsome peer!

This is a simple, but beautiful cover done by an unknown artist. We see our couple standing near their camp by an oasis. The sun and sand look hot, but they are in the shade of a tree. I like their expressions as they gaze upon one another and the heroine's beautiful robes.

The Lovely Liar

The Lovely Liar is #66 in the Camfield series and was published in February 1989. Noella Wakefield had to deceive the Earl of Ravensdale since she was a pawn in a scoundrel's deadly scheme. However, fate and love had a different part for both of them to play!

This is a pretty cover! I like the heroine's 1840's Victorian full blue gown with her puffed hairdo that echoes the gown! Our hero still favors the garments of the past regency. They are in a curio room full with interesting dishes and objects of art.

A Chieftain Finds Love

A Chieftain Finds Love is #65 in the Camfield series and was published in January 1989. Barbara Cartland writes a story about Isa, a famous soprano, who leaves London for her beloved Scotland. She craves peace, but finds a plot to murder the chieftain of Clan McNaver and steal an ancient treasure from him. Can she warn him in time?

This is an elegant cover by an unknown artist of our couple during a party. Our heroine is exquisite in an icy blue gown with a feathered hairpiece. Our hero wears Scottish regalia. We don't know if they're meeting for the first time or after the excitement.

Little Tongues of Fire

Little Tongues of Fire is #64 in the Camfield series and was published in December 1988. The Duke of Quarrington is concerned enough about his profligate brother in order to welcome the suggestion of his marrying Miss Vina Wallace for her fortune. However, once he meets Vina, he wonders how she'll manage with him.

This is a pretty cover of our couple traveling by ship. Our heroine is pretty in a blue bustle gown while our hero is formal in burgandy. We get the feeling that they are in love and that this journey is one towards a solution.

Saved by Love

Saved by Love is #63 in the Camfield series and was published in November 1988. Yursa's grandmother, who is half-French, is scheming to marry her to the Duc de Montveal. Yursa is intrigued with all things French, so goes along with her grandmother to meet the Duc, but a rival's hatred stands between true love!

This is a dramatic picture of our heroine being burned at the stake! A lady, probably the rival, stands triumphantly nearby, but we see the Duc riding to the rescue.

Only a Dream

Only A Dream by Barbara Cartland, is #62 in the Camfield series and was published in October 1988. Isla Kenway, the daughter of one of London's famous music hall performers, fleeing the advances of another, seeks shelter with the Marquis of Longridge! Can true love find a way to exist in these social circles?

This is an interesting cover of our heroine either saying goodbye or pleading for help from the hero. I like her full crinoline gown of white and he is also dressed for evening with a top hat, tuxedo, and cane. We see a picture of the elegance that was 19th century London in this picture.

The Herb for Happiness

The Herb for Happiness is #61 in the Camfield series and was published in September 1988. The Vicar's daughter, Selma, is enamored of the Duke of Mortlyn, but he doesn't notice her until she is able to use her healing powers and herbs after an attempt on his life renders him ill.

Interesting cover of our couple. I like the Tudor style house in the background and the cherub fountain! Our couple looks as if they are standing on the grounds of his estate and sharing a tender moment together! Her poofy gown makes me want to bring them back into style!

An Adventure of Love

An Adventure of Love is #60 in the Camfield series and was published in August 1988. Princess Zorina falls in love right at the time Queen Victoria promises her to the aging King of Leothia. Will true love triumph in spite of queens and decrees?

This cover, by an unknown illustrator, shows our couple riding mountain horses through a rugged terrain. We don't know if they are escaping or out for a ride. Unless you read the blurb on the back cover, you wouldn't know that the heroine is a princess, but these are some of Barbara Cartland's best romances and a story of what Queen Victoria really did with her relatives!

The Goddess of Love

The Goddess of Love is #59 in the Camfield series and was published in July 1988. Corena Melville is in Greece and has fallen in love with Lord Warburton. However, she may have to choose between her love and her father's life!

This is a very beautiful cover of our couple standing at the ruins in Greece. We see a beautiful scene of the countryside and a ruin where our couple has just completed their wedding vows. It is one that makes you want to pick up the book and see what it's all about.

Love is Invincible

Love is Invincible is #58 in the Camfield series and was published in June 1988. Delia's sister, Lucille, has fallen in love with the Marquis of Shawforde and his family is irate. They send Lord Kenyon down to break it up, but he ends up intrigued with Delia! Can both couples find true love? This cover is pretty, but our couple seem awkwardly kissing each other. I like the ornate room and her elegant purple bustle dress. I wish we could see more of the hero's face and features. BC.com has the heroine in a different color dress, which is interesting! The picture is lighter and I like it better than the cover print used.

Lovers in Lisbon

Lovers in Lisbon is #57 in the Camfield series and was published in May 1988. Felicita is a poor seamstress when she is noticed by the Duchesse of Monreuil in the lobby of a hotel. The Duchesse plans to use her as a weapon to entice the son of her first lover, the Marquis of Alvaro. This is one of the few books Cartland set in Portugal.

This cover, by an unknown artist, is very pretty. I like that the heroine has dark hair, which is unusual for Barbara Cartland heroines! Our couple stand in a field of flowers and we see a beautiful blue sky as a background. Our couple seem enamored of each other!

Riding in the Sky

Riding in the Sky is #56 in the Camfield series and was published in April 1988. Filipa Seymour agrees to impersonate a Pretty Horse Breaker and help her brother win a contest that the Marquis of Kilne is hosting. However, it gets sticky when the Marquis makes her a shocking offer!

This is an interesting cover of the parade with the contestants dressed up and riding their horses. We see the hero, not dressed in costume, talking to the heroine in her medieval outfit. The 1860's were the height of fame for the Pretty Horse Breakers, in London.

Secrets of the Heart

Secrets of the Heart is #55 in the Camfield series and was published in March 1988. Zenobia Chade is under the control of her evil stepmother after her father's death and runs away! She finds a job as a secretary to the Earl of Ockendon but can she really stay hidden?

This is a colorful and pretty cover of our couple standing and comforting each other at the bottom of an elegant stairway. I'm assuming that the lady on the floor is the evil stepmother, since only the butler is helping her! The heroine's yellow bustle dress dominates this cover with its color and ornateness.

I'm glad that Barbara Cartland kept most of her stories in the 1800-1900 time frame. She knew her history and the glimpses of fashion and society from then is very interesting.

A Caretaker of Love

A Caretaker of Love is #54 in the Camfield series and was published in February 1988. Neula and her mother flee her stepfather and run to her mother's childhood home, now owned by the Marquis of Kerne. He is intrigued to learn their secret while her mother is courted by an old flame!

We see a dramatic cover with an older man, presumably the evil stepfather, choking or having an attack, while the heroine looks on horrified. The hero stands behind her and the room is very elegant and rich. The heroine's blue gown is typical for the 1830's.

Sapphires in Siam

Sapphires in Siam is #53 in the Camfield series by Barbara Cartland and was published in January 1988. The Marquis of Vale is visited by the Siamese ambassador with the news that his friend, Calvin Brook, is dead. He meets Calvin's daughter to break the news to her and she decides to travel with him to Siam, since Ankana doesn't believe the report about her father's death.

This cover is interesting to me because the heroine is a brunette, which has been rare in Cartland's latest romances. One gets tired of blondes after a while! Our couple are in an Oriental setting which is dangerous and mysterious. We don't know if the Buddhist monk in the background is friendly or not.

Love and Kisses

Love and Kisses is #52 in the Camfield series by author Barbara Cartland and was published in December 1987. Arilla Lindsey is young and beautiful, but won't find an eligible man in the country. She plans a scheme with her handsome, but poor cousin, to get to London and marry a wealthy man!

This is a cute cover of our couple standing in a Regency era room. Our heroine is pretty in a pale pink gown and the hero seems to be reassuring her. I love Cartland's romances like this one; easy to read and ending happily!

The Love Puzzle

The Love Puzzle is #51 in the Camfield series and was published in November 1987. Orphan Katrina Darley finds herself engaged to the dashing Duke of Lyndbooke after an incident happens where her reputation must be saved! Can he really save her and can she save him from a pair of viperous women?

We see our couple pictured on a horse riding away from some caravans. I would guess that the hero has just rescued the heroine since she wouldn't be riding in a ball gown! She is a typical Barbara Cartland heroine, blonde, young, and very pretty! The unknown artist has a talent for drawing horses. I also like the fact that we see our couple with nature around them, as evidenced by the fact that they are framed by the trees and sky.

Starlight Over Tunis

Starlight Over Tunis is #50 in the Camfield series and was published in October 1987. The Marquis of Quinbourne is in Monte Carlo when he is approached by an English Adventurer and his daughter about traveling into Tunisia to obtain a treasure! Since the Marquis doesn't want to return to England and marry, he accepts and travels with Sabra and her father to a mysterious land!

This is an interesting cover of our couple in an ancient amphitheater. Everything is clay colored which echoes in the heroine's hair! She shares an embrace with the hero and we wonder what adventures and danger surround them!

Barbara Cartland's books where the heroine seems to be of inferior birth to the hero are always interesting reads!

The Earl Escapes

The Earl Escapes is #49 in the Camfield series and was published by Jove in September 1987. The Earl of Dolphinston is being pursued by Lady Hester Stansfield, who is determined to marry him! He finds his salvation in Valencia, a vicar's daughter, who overhears the plot against him and is determined to save him!

This is a pretty cover set inside a ballroom. We see the earl and Valencia, along with the dark haired lady who means to marry him and the Prince of Wales. Whatever the earl has said has infuriated the lady in pink! It's an intriguing cover that makes you want to pick up the book!!

Wanted-A Wedding Ring

Wanted-A Wedding Ring is#48 in the Camfield series and was published in August 1987. Ina Wescott, all alone, turns to her notorious aunt, the retired actress Rosie Gill for help. Rosie, unbeknown to Ina, plans to use her as an act of revenge on a certain Viscount Colt!

We see our couple standing in a tropical setting near a pretty lake with moonlight reflecting off of it. Our heroine wears an elegant, almost bridal, gown while our hero is dashing in black tie. A very romantic setting for an elegant couple.

Bewildered in Berlin

Bewildered in Berlin is #47 in the Camfield series and was published in July 1987. Lord Braydon, who is traveling in Germany for the Prince of Wales, saves Loelia Standish and her father from the Kaiser's grasp. Can they all escape Germany without being caught?

This is a very purple cover with our couple sitting on a bed in a very garishly decorated room! The hero looks as if he's comforting the heroine, who seems to match the decor! I'm wondering if they are traveling in a train or ship?

Forced to Marry

Forced to Marry is #46 in the Camfield series and was published in June 1987. Gytha Sullivan inherits a huge fortune, but on the proviso that she marry one of her cousins. Since she doesn't want to do this, she seeks help with her friend, Lord Locke and they come up with a plan to thwart the cousins!

This is such a pretty cover! I like the regency wedding gown of our heroine and the hero in all of his orders! The setting looks quiet and holy without other attenders. Since the picture and the title seem to contradict each other, it makes me want to pick this up and read it again!

An Angel Runs Away

An Angel Runs Away is #45 in the Camfield series and was published in May 1987 by Jove for Barbara Cartland. Ula Forde is rescued by the Marquis of Raventhorpe, the man who helps her get away from her uncle and cousin. She doesn't know, though, if he wants to use her as an instrument of revenge?

This is an interesting cover of our couple in an attic space. Our heroine wears a native costume and the hero has arrived to comfort her. I think it may be a haven because of the books there. There is actually a lot of detail in this cover, which is unusual for this unknown artist.

Love Joins the Clans

Love Joins the Clans is #44 in the Camfield series and was published in April 1987. Clova McBlane, a penniless orphan living in Paris, becomes the hereditary Chieftain of a Scottish Clan! She meets the dashing Tarquil, Laird of Cowan, whose clan has been feuding with hers and they team up against a greater enemy!

This is a beautiful cover of the hero paying homage to the heroine, as the chief of the clan. She is pretty in a pink bustle gown trimmed in blue while he wears traditional tartan. I like the background landscape with the river and mountains.

Dancing on a Rainbow

Dancing on a Rainbow is #43 in the Camfield series and was published in March 1987. Lady Loretta's father is forcing her into marriage with the Marquis of Sauerdun, the son of a good friend. She is aghast at the thought of an arranged marriage and is determined to prove to her father that he is a rake!

We see our couple standing in front of a beautiful fountain and dressed in evening clothes of the 1880's. Our heroine uses pink roses to accent her blue bustle gown and hair. The hero is elegant in tails. It's a pretty and romantic scene and much nicer than the earlier risque covers!

A World of Love

A World of Love is #42 in the Camfield series and was published in February 1987. Carmella's brother has incurred a gambling debt that he can't possibly pay back. He has wagered his mother's sapphire necklace, a famous heirloom that is now set with fake stones! When the Marquis of Ingleton, who won the wager, invites Gerald to his house party, he decides to bring Carmella and to see if they can steal back the necklace! This is an interesting cover with our couple on a staircase. The heroine is pretty in a blue dinner gown and looks at the hero with a smile. I like the sweeping staircase and feel of grandeur and wealth that the artist produces.

The Eternal Collection shows a Francis Marshall picture for this cover and it's beautiful! It looks new to me, but if a sharp eyed reader sees which title it was originally for, please let me know and I'll give you credit!

 

 

   

 

Love Casts Out Fear

Love Casts Out Fear is #41 in the Camfield series and was published in January 1987. Alecia Stambrook helps her cousin by impersonating her while in France with her cousin, Lord Kiniston, is a member of the army of occupation. Alecia is afraid of being found out and of falling in love with her cousin's guardian!

We see an exciting cover of our couple taking cover from a bomb blast! They are at an important event and dressed for the occasion! It's a crazy, colorful, action scene and a perfect juxtaposition of the title!

The Golden Cage

The Golden Cage is #40 in the Camfield series and was published in December 1986. Crisa Royden is widowed after weeks of marriage to an American. She plans to leave her horrid relatives and flees to Europe! Incognito, she meets Adrian Thorpe, a man who hates all wealthy women!!

We see our couple on board ship with our heroine holding a smoking pistol! Our hero is handsome and his arm's in a sling. There is a villain wounded on the floor!! The room is very ornate and elegant and our heroine very richly dressed!

Listen to Love

Listen to Love is #39 in the Camfield series and was published in November 1986. Anthea Brooke is shocked and intrigued with the Marquis of Eaglescliffe, who is the new owner of her home. Will music bring them together or tear them apart?

This artist paints a pretty cover of our couple. Our heroine plays the piano while the hero listens nearby. I like her pretty but simple evening gown and how the hero seems enchanted with her playing. He is also dressed fashionably and I like the lace at his cuffs. The piano itself seems very grand and fancy!

The Love Trap

The Love Trap is #38 in the Camfield series and was published in October 1986. A very determined married woman is planning on making the Duke of Wynchester her next husband! Once he finds out, the duke leaves his mistress, but rescues her step daughter, Janeta. Can the solution to both of their problems be marriage to each other?

This is a nice cover of our couple at dinner. I like the setting and all of the colors. Our heroine is very pretty in her blue evening gown and jewelry. The jewel tone of the wine carafe blends in with the hero's jacket. The butler is emphasized as much as the couple and that brings an interesting dynamic to this cover.

A Dream in Spain

A Dream in Spain is 37 in the Camfield series and was published in September 1986. Valeda Alcester has agreed to pose as governess to her niece in order for her rich and elegant sister to ensnare the Marquis de Silvala as her second husband! However, the Marquis is interested in Valeda because she resembles his favorite painting of the Madonna!

I'm so glad we are done with the "naked" covers. This one is so pretty. It shows our couple in a museum with the heroine in front of the hero's favorite painting of the Madonna. Her 1880's yellow bustle dress is fancy but shows her height and delicacy. It's unusual for Barbara Cartland to have a Spaniard as the hero!

The Secret of the Mosque

The Secret of the Mosque is #36 in the Camfield series and was published in August 1986. Rozella Beverly travels to Constantinople to replace her father as a translator. She meets Lord Mervyn, who is infuriated with the switch. Can they work together to complete a vital mission?

This cover shows our couple looking down into a hole where light is showing and we assume people are talking. Our couple wear traditional clothing to keep anonymous. What's interesting is how their hands are clasped together! A sign of love!!

The Devil Defeated

The Devil Defeated is #35 in the Camfield series and was published by Jove for Barbara Cartland in July 1986. Dorina Stanfield, the vicar's daughter, is angry at the new Earl of Yardecombe for his treatment of his parishioners, but is determined to save him after hearing of a devious plot against him by his heir!

This is a pretty picture of our couple sitting on a log talking! I like the sweeping landscape towards the grand house in the background. It is what we think when we picture an estate! I am not a fan of our heroine's close bonnet, though!
